John & Jeanette de Dood married in 1957 and started their family in Canoe B.C., where John worked full-time at the mill. It was during this time that they purchased their first dairy cows, marking the beginning of their journey as farmers. John & Jeanette de Dood married in 1957 and started their family in Canoe B.C., where John worked full-time at the mill. It was during this time that they purchased their first dairy cows, marking the beginning of their journey as farmers. Later, they moved to Grindrod to expand their farm, which came to be known as John's Farm, famous for its delicious ice cream made from the milk of their beloved animals. John retired in 1991, passing the torch to his eldest son, John Jr. John Sr. passed away in 2021, leaving behind his loving wife Jeanette, five children (Brenda, John, Bill, Michelle, Mitzi), 15 grandchildren, and 20 (+counting) great-grandchildren, who cherish the legacy of Farmer Johns of Grindrod.
The dairy farm 'Sunninghill Holsteins', managed by Farmer Johns, has 105 Holsteins milking on-site. The de Doods farm approximately 200 acres of land, growing crops such as corn, alfalfa, grass, and barley.
